Speaker: Brother Caleb Perez
Ministry: Wellspring Ministry

“Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.”
Proverbs 3:9–10

Sermon Overview

This Bible study continues the teaching on the covenant of tithes and offerings, exploring the believer’s responsibility to honour God with faithful stewardship. The message emphasizes that tithes and offerings are not merely financial obligations but expressions of worship, gratitude, and covenant relationship with God. Believers are encouraged to give with faith, understanding, and joyful obedience, recognizing that God looks at the heart rather than the amount.

1. Honouring God With Our Substance

God calls His people to acknowledge Him as the source of every blessing by giving Him the first and best portion of their increase.

  • Everything belongs to God.
  • Tithing demonstrates trust in God’s provision.
  • Giving first reflects God’s rightful place in our lives.
  • Faithful stewardship honours the Lord.

Giving is therefore an act of worship that declares God’s ownership over every area of life.

2. The Covenant Requires Faithful Obedience

The covenant of tithes and offerings is built upon obedience rather than obligation.

God delights in believers who:

  • Give willingly.
  • Give faithfully.
  • Give consistently.
  • Give with grateful hearts.

Obedience opens the door for God to work in the lives of His children according to His promises.

3. The Heart Behind the Gift

God is not impressed by outward generosity alone but examines the motives of the heart.

True giving is characterized by:

  • Faith.
  • Love.
  • Humility.
  • Gratitude.

Offerings presented without faith become religious routine, but offerings given in faith become pleasing sacrifices before God.

4. Stewardship Is a Kingdom Responsibility

Everything entrusted to believers should be managed with wisdom and accountability.

Faithful stewardship includes:

  • Returning God’s tithe.
  • Supporting the work of the ministry.
  • Helping those in need.
  • Using God’s resources for His glory.

The believer serves as a steward rather than an owner of God’s blessings.

5. Cheerful Giving Pleases God

The Lord desires willing and joyful givers rather than reluctant or pressured giving.

Giving becomes an act of worship when it flows from:

  • Love for Christ.
  • Confidence in God’s promises.
  • Revelation of His goodness.
  • A thankful heart.

Faith transforms giving from duty into joyful worship.

6. Trusting God as Our Provider

Giving requires believers to place their confidence in God’s faithfulness rather than in earthly possessions.

The covenant reminds believers that:

  • God knows every need.
  • He faithfully provides for His people.
  • He blesses obedient faith.
  • He rewards those who seek Him wholeheartedly.

Financial stewardship therefore becomes an expression of complete dependence upon God.

7. Giving Reflects True Worship

Worship is demonstrated not only through praise but also through obedient living.

Faithful giving reveals:

  • Love for God.
  • Commitment to His Kingdom.
  • Trust in His promises.
  • A desire to advance His work.

The believer’s generosity becomes evidence of a transformed heart.

8. Living Under God’s Covenant Blessing

God invites His people to walk in covenant relationship with Him through faithful obedience.

As believers honour Him with their substance, they experience:

  • His provision.
  • His peace.
  • His protection.
  • His continual faithfulness.

Every blessing ultimately points believers back to God’s grace rather than their own efforts.

Conclusion

The covenant of tithes and offerings reminds believers that giving is an expression of faith, worship, and complete trust in God. As faithful stewards, Christians are called to honour the Lord with the firstfruits of their increase, support His work, and give cheerfully from hearts transformed by His grace. Through obedience and faith, believers demonstrate their love for God and participate in His Kingdom purposes.
